Agenda points for the open meeting. This is just a list of things people may want to talk about – feel free to add anything else by leaving a comment…
- how we organise the space (bookings, consensus?? more meetings…)
- do we really want to say that we’re officially not bothered about Tesco?
- how we relate to the community
- Do we have longer-term plans?
- Do we want to talk to the council or look into longer-term funding for such a space?
- Talk to existing people using the space and get interviews (film, written) about why they use it, what they want from a community centre
- get a petition going?

I won’t be able to make it to the meeting as I have another meeting elsewhere to be attending to, but I would like to see the beginnings of some kind of ‘safe space’ mentality coming out of the discussions tonight or in the near future. At present the social centre is operated just on the basis that “anyone can use it” and it is “democratic”.
Without specific pre-emptive thought and/or action, there could be conflict later down the line if people don’t give consideration to questions of prejudice, discrimination, etc. The space should be a safe place for everyone to use without fear of these, so it would be a good idea to take active steps towards ensuring that everybody who enters the space checks their prejudices at the door and realises that the spirit of co-operation is the overriding principle here.

I missed the meeting as I was out of town but I’d love to see a report here (that’s what I was looking for this morning). Not necessarily “minutes” but something that let me know how many turned up, which topics on the agenda received the most active discussion and what, if any, decisions or acions arose.

Hope that you get the go ahead to stay on Thursday. Was reading in a paper that if you have tried to make arrangements to pay council tax for the address then it helps?…All the best, Lisa
